Finally, the third installment of The Hunger Games has been revealed!
Isn't it beautiful? *gazes up with dopey eyes* It'll be release 8-24-10, so get your amazon pre-order in now, lol!
Yes, I know I'm thirty and this is a YA series, but I've possibly gotten more joy out of Collins' Hunger Games books than any other series I've read recently, YA or otherwise. Her style has definitely inspired my own writing, especially recently. What does it say that I've got a teetering tbr pile of books, but all I reach for when I want to relax in the tub is The Hunger Games.
Okay, so maybe it's not relaxing, exactly, but it's so easy to immerse yourself into her writing, so it has that escapist appeal I look for in a bathtub read. ;)
I knew it had been optioned, but this USA today article confirms a wonderful rumor I heard:
"Collins is finishing her screenplay of The Hunger Games, the first book."
Sweet. It's already got a bare-bones imdb page, too.
Whose work has been inspiring your own lately?

Yea! That's only 6 months and 13 days away. Still feels too long! And a movie? Awesome! Can't wait!
I'm 36 and love it. I don't think I'll be able to watch the movie, though. This series is meant for me to read, not see.
I devoured The Hunger Games over the weekend, and my son is picking up Catching Fire today at his school's Book Fair. Can't wait!! I'm so excited book three is on its way -- thanks for the updates!
Man, I've heard so many awesome things about that series. Is this the last installment? I absolutely hate waiting for books in a series, so I tend to like to read a series when it's all done. I'm pretty close to caving, though.
Ah! I've been hearing so much about this series! I borrowed it from a friend and can't wait to get started, but I have library books that are due first! Alas! On the bright side, it means less time for me to wait on the 3rd book since I'll have the 1st two to get through. :)
I will have to check it out, too. I've also heard so many good things. My usual rules is, if I've heard from three different people how good something is, then I go out and buy it. Right now I'm re-reading Lisa see and beginning Joshilyn Jackson's books.
Woo-hoo! I can't wait. Already devoured the first two. Hmmm, maybe I'll reread them before this one releases.
I can NOT wait for this to come out!! And I love the cover too :-) (Though I can't help but think Mock...YEAH...ing...YEAH...Bird...YEAH)
Right there with you on this one!! CANNOT WAIT!
Cool! I'm amazed they're letting her write her own screenplay. Really glad to hear it; she's the best person to keep the voice of the books.
A MOVIE?!? HOORAY!!!!! Oh, that's the BEST news I've had all day!
Terry Pratchett is completely inspiring me right now. And I'm shocked at how many "readers" among us who either haven't read him or haven't even heard of him!! (Gasp, the horror!)
I am a fan of Collins, although the love triangle stuff of Catching Fire I could do without. Good stuff, though. Very good.
I love the cover *squee* I'm thirty four and I love this book too and I'm totally in love with Peeta.
Yeah. Well, I'm older than you, Mary, and I love it too. And I'm not afraid to admit it, either. Can we start a save Peeta campaign? Please?
Love the cover, and I'm so excited for the third book and the movie that I could scream like my teenage daughter. EEEEEE!
Okay, that might be a little much. Or not.
Thanks for the update.
Good to know I'm not alone, lol! I'm trying to read it to my husband at night--he's not a big reader, but loves to listen to me read--but lately we've been too busy or worn out to read before bed. I guess now we have a deadline; we ought to have it finished before the movie comes out in 2011. ;)
XiXi, you should definitely start the series now that the third book is coming out. I think you'll really enjoy it, but I don't want to give away too much of the story.
To me, this cover looks very hopeful. Like a resolution is in store for the people of the Districts of Panem. It's amazing how Collins gets you to care so much about Katniss that you start caring about all the other ordinary people in her country, too. She's good!
Terresa, I LOVE Terry Pratchett, but I have to admit I haven't read anything of his in a while, since I've mostly been reading as a writer, and writing his kind of humor is pretty much out of my league. (The only book even partly by him I own is Good Omens--Best. Collaboration. Evah!)
At least we'll all be counting down til August together!
I haven't read this series yet! I need to make a trip to a Barnes and Noble very soon, because there are so many great books I need to catch up on! I'm currently reading "Kindred" by Octavia Butler and it's really wonderful. I need all the inspiration I can get since motivation has been sadly lacking.
I read the first two books out loud with my family and we were totally addicted. I'm so excited to have a date and a cover on this!! Thanks for the info. :)
